It’s a new year and a new opportunity to achieve your goals! As a personal trainer for many years now, I’ve seen success take many forms.
Here are ten tips I use with my coaching students, so they can start 2023 on the starting blocks towards achieving their sporting goals…and their dreams.

Tip 1: Have a goal and a vision in mind!
Nothing motivates like having a goal and a vision in mind. Determine what you want to accomplish this year. Whether it’s taking part in a marathon or slowly getting back into shape through physical activity and sport, use it to stay focused and improve every day in achieving your sporting goals. When you know where you want to go, it’s much easier to stay focused on the steps you need to take to get there…
Tip 2: Aim for smaller goals along the way!
It’s great to have a big goal, but it can also be overwhelming if you don’t break it down into smaller steps. This will help you stay motivated and ensure that you make progress towards your final goal.

Tip 3: Make time for training!

Tip 4: Take care of your body with a balanced diet!
Your body is the most important tool when you’re exercising; without it, none of the other tips would matter!
So make sure you take care of yourself, whether it’s stretching after workouts or eating healthy meals throughout the day. By taking care of your body, you’ll be sure to perform at your best throughout 2023.
Tip 5: Connect with other people who share your passion for sport!
Whether it’s connecting with other athletes who have similar goals or finding mentors who can guide you along the way, connecting with others who share your passion can be invaluable in helping you succeed this year. Not only will these relationships give you support and encouragement in difficult times, but they can also offer you opportunities for growth and improvement that were previously unthinkable.

Tip 6: Don’t be afraid of failure!
Failure is inevitable when pursuing an important goal, but don’t let failure stop you from achieving greatness! Use failures as learning experiences rather than obstacles. Take the time to reflect on what went wrong, so that next time things go differently (and hopefully better!).
Tip 7: Celebrate your successes!
Don’t forget to celebrate your small victories! Acknowledge the milestones you’ve reached this year and give yourself time to appreciate the hard work you’ve put in. Your successes should be celebrated as much as your failures should be learned from. Both will bring you closer to your goal of becoming an athlete by the end of 2023.
Tip 8: Be patient!
It’s probably been said a million times before, but Rome wasn’t built in a day. Your journey to becoming an athlete won’t happen overnight either, so don’t expect too much too soon. On the other hand, don’t give up when things seem difficult. On the contrary, stay consistent and trust your hard work.
Tip 9: Keep track of your progress!
To help you stay motivated and on track, it’s important to monitor your progress regularly. It could be setting benchmarks for yourself, tracking the number of kilometers you’ve traveled or the number of times you’ve lifted a certain weight. Tip 10: Have fun!
Above all, remember why you started this sport in the first place – because it was fun! Don’t forget to have fun while striving for excellence this year. After all, happiness should always come first!
